29 new social houses are going to be built in South County Dublin.
13 of them will be developed on unused land at Killinarden Heights in Tallaght, while the other 16 will be built on a site on the Old Knocklyon Road.
South Dublin County Council says the project forms part of its commitment to drive the building of social housing units over the next few years.
Daniel McLoughlin, Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council said he expects "another 272 housing units expected to be handed over to the Council by July next year."
"These new developments bring the stock of Council housing to almost 9,600 units", he said.
Local Fianna Fail Representative, Charlie O’Connor, has said that the plan "will transform the Tallaght area".
“There is an abundance of strategically zoned land that should be fully utilised and developed", he said.
The announcement comes as Sinn Fein prepares to put forward a motion of no confidence in the Housing Minister for failing to fix the housing crisis.
Fianna Fail has said it will not support the motion.
Last night Eoghan Murphy issued a statement telling local councils to focus “on putting a plan” together to build new homes, rather than criticising him.
Minister Murphy last week warned councils that he would use emergency powers if they fail to make more progress on the homeless crisis.
