A host of big names in Irish music, including Snow Patrol, Bell X1 and Damien Dempsey, have come together to help the homeless this Christmas.

Lisa Hannigan, James Vincent McMorrow and The Frames are also among those that have put together an album to raise money for those on the streets and in emergency accommodation.

The album, called 'Street Lights', was released today and is available to buy on CD from Golden Discs or digitally in a download from iTunes.

The lead track on the album is ‘Homeward Bound', which The High Hopes Choir recorded with stars like Bono, Gary Lightbody, Cathy Davey and Little Green Cars.

Speaking about the project, The High Hopes Choir said it had been "a joy to work with so many amazing musicians, artists and people from across the music industry to release this single and album to the public".

"We hope they love it as much as we all do, and buy it to help our homeless citizens".

As well as raising money from sales of the 'Street Lights' album for Peter McVerry Trust, Simon Community Ireland and Focus Ireland, those behind the project also hope to raise awareness of the plight of homeless people.

They are encouraging people to donate €4 to the Street Lights Project, by texting 'STREET LIGHTS' to 50300.
