The Taoiseach, President and Minister for Justice will lead 1916 commemorations in the capital today.

It's 98 years since the Easter Sunday stand-off at Dublin's G.P.O. and the men and women who gave their lives for Ireland's freedom are to be publicly honoured.

Among the highlights of the day's events will be an air corps fly past and a reading of the proclamation of Independence.

Michael D Higgins will also lay a wreath as a sign of respect for those who died.

Spokesperson for the Defence Forces is Captain Donal Gallagher
