There have been a further 1,386 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ireland today.

The five-day moving average of cases now stands at 1227 cases.

Figures released by the HSE this morning showed there were 106 patients with COVID-19 being treated in Irish hospitals - an increase compared to recent days.

The number of patients in intensive care has remained steady at 22.

Over 80% of adults have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with more than 66% fully vaccinated.

In a statement, the Department of Health said there has been "fantastic uptake" of the vaccine across all age groups to date.

However, they're urging people to not rely on unsubstantiated information shared online about the jabs - saying misinformation has undermined vaccination efforts in many countries.

Meanwhile, the EMA has today approved the Moderna vaccine for use in teenagers aged 12-17.

Europe's Health Commissioner says they want to make sure children can continue to live their lives in the safest possible way.

They've previously given similar approval to the Pfizer vaccine, with NIAC currently deciding whether approved vaccines should be rolled out to teenagers in Ireland.
