One in three people have admitted to losing their bank card on a night out.

That's according to research by KBC, which shows 17% of those who reported their card missing have gone on to find it again afterwards.

Men between the ages of 22 and 44, living in Dublin topped the poll of those most likely to lose their cards.

KBC also investigated some of the most awkward situations Irish folk had found themselves in without a credit card, with an embarrassed 15% of Irish adults admitting that they had not been able to pay the bill when on a date.

Shopping also proved testing with one-third of 18-24-year olds admitting to getting to the front of the queue with a food shop before realising they have no way to pay.

The research comes following the launch of KBC’s new app, which has a new Lost/Stolen card service.

KBC Bank Ireland’s Director of Innovation, Eddie Dillon, said it is "unique to the Irish market".

"No matter what time of day or night customers will no longer be inconvenienced by losing their card, able to stock up their digital wallet and continue to make purchases hassle free", he said.
