A proposal by Dublin City Council shows plans for a new two-way cycle route along Strand Road in Sandymount

The proposed route would be similar to the new coastal mobility route which has recently been implemented by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council between Blackrock and Sandycove

Both Dublin City Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown councils have said it is aimed at getting locals to cycle rather than tourists.

A cycle route along Strand Road was first proposed more than two decades ago as part of the Sutton to Sandycove (S2S) coastal route, which was devised by cycling campaigners Clara Clark and Michael Collins.

Kieran Ryan, spokesperson for the Dublin Cycling Campaign says they "welcome the continuation of the cycle route" and that it is 'fantastic to see' a route similar to that of the North sides route from Sutton to Clontarf.
