Manchester United suspend Mason Greenwood over allegations

Manchester United have suspended Mason Greenwood following social media allegations made against him.

The club, Greater Manchester Police and Nike all released statements on Sunday following the emergence of the allegations over the weekend.

The force says it is "aware of images and videos circulating on social media" relating to the 20-year-old English striker.

A spokesperson for the force has said: "Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Manchester United, the club with which Greenwood has played since beginning his youth career in 2007, has also issued a statement since the allegations emegerd on Saturday night.

The club said it was aware of "images and allegations circulating on social media" relating to Greenwood.

A spokesperson for them has said "did not condone violence of any kind" but would not make further comment "until the facts have been established".

The club's statement early on Sunday in full read:

"We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.

"We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.

"Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind."

Since that statement they have now confirmed that he will not play for or train with the club until further notice.

Nike, Greenwoods's boot sponsor have also issued a statement, saying they find the allegations 'disturbing;'

"We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”
