Man Arrested Over M50 Drug Seizure

A man has been arrested in connection with the seizure of €250,000 worth of suspected cannabis.

Gardaí from the drugs unit in the K District stopped a car on the M50 near Finglas yesterday morning.

The car was searched and the drugs were discovered along with €6,000 in cash.

One man in his early 40s was arrested and is currently being held at a Garda station in North Dublin.

Meanwhile, the drugs will now be subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

In a statement Gardaí said: "Gardaí seized €250,000 of suspected cannabis herb along with a sum of cash when they stopped a vehicle on the M50 as part of Operation Tara in Finglas, Dublin 11 on Saturday morning 4th November, 2023.The stop and search operation was conducted by Gardaí attached to the K District Drug Unit.During the course of the search, approximately €250,000 of suspected cannabis herb along with €6,000 of cash was seized by Gardaí.The drugs will now undergo analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).One man (aged in his early 40s) was arrested at the scene and he is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in North Dublin.Investigations are ongoing."
