Overwatch finally gets a 2-2-2 Role Queue

Blizzard have announced a massive change to Overwatch, arguably the biggest change in the games’ three-year lifespan.

It’s of course the 2-2-2 Role Queue, meaning every team will soon be comprised of two damage dealers, two tanks, and two supports – so RIP to the six support meta (it works I swear!).

The changes have been called for by fans for years, to cut out on toxicity at the beginning of a match if your team is unwilling to switch to a more useful composition, and for esports players to have a more stable career path.

Role Queue will come into place on September 1st and will impact Quickplay and Competitive modes, but there will be a Quickplay Classic in the Arcade for anyone who wants to play the game as it is now.

You’ll now have three separate Competitive modes to rank in, so you could place Gold in Support, Platinum in Tank, and Silver in Damage for example.
This means that you’ll have to play three separate rounds of Placement Matches at 5 per role, but the upside is you’ll get triple the amount of competitive points towards a golden weapon.

The Role Queue update is live on the PTR now and will come into effect on September 1st, and for the Overwatch League from the beginning of Stage 4.

Check out the developer post for a more in-depth breakdown of Role Queue.
