There's fears that a new plan by the National Transport Authority for the Metrolink would see the Luas Green Line close for up to four years.

The Irish Independent reports that the Transport Minister has advised the NTA in recent days against alternative proposals. It's reported those new plans would see the Luas line closed for longer than originally planned.

The Metrolink southside route is currently being remodeled. It's as a result of complaints from residents in Ranelagh and a campaign by the Rethink MetroLink group.

Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan says the south side of the city cannot afford disruption on the green line. He said: 'I don't think we can close the Green Luas Line for four years. Dublin's Transport system is at crisis. So i think it's more likely we go with the option that I suggested of keeping the tunnel going further south. Or else it would come up at Beechwood so you don't have to do the cut and cover option.'
