MCD boss Denis Desmond said this week that he's, 'optimistic that Electric Picnic will happen'.

Speaking to The Irish Mirror Desmond said, 'It is five months away.'

'I would be optimistic that Electric Picnic will happen but of course we are in un-chartered waters here.'

'I’ve no doubt that there will be a relaxation of the restrictions in place but it will probably be some time before we can have 20,000 people in a stadium or in a field.'

Referring to China, Desmond said, 'We are two months behind them and we are not as badly hit with Covid-19. If we are back to normality by July, we would be doing well.'

Elsewhere in the interview the Managing Director of live music promoters at MCD revealed The Gaiety Theatre will re-open in September.

While he hopes The Olympia Theatre can re-open in July.

Rage Against The Machine, Snow Patrol, and The Chemical Brothers are set to headline the event.
