A Dublin based doctor has admitted distributing child abuse material.

Dr Ronan Keogan, formerly of College Square in Terenure, was due to stand trial today but a jury wasn’t required after he pleaded guilty to two charges.

Dr Ronan Keogan was initially facing five charges of possessing child pornography images at his clinic and three charges of knowingly distributing child pornography.

He was due to stand trial today but his barrister, Lorcan Staines SC, told the court a jury wouldn’t be required.

His 50 year old client then pleaded guilty to one count of knowingly distributing child pornography at an unknown location within the State on March 26th 2017.

He also admitted one count of possessing child pornography images at an address in Templeogue, Dublin, on May 15th 2017.

A no publicity order was previously imposed on the case, but was lifted following queries from the media.

His sentence hearing has been sent for January 20th next year.
