The Social Democrats says the termination of developmental assessments for babies in Dublin West is "very unacceptable" for mothers in the area.

Families have been contacted by the HSE advising that child health services in the area are moving to a "prioritisation system" due to staff shortages.

These assessments generally take place for children aged from 3 months to 48 months old and are crucial to ensuring the health and safety of the babies.

Co-leader of the Social Democrats, Roisin Shortall, says families are not receiving adequate care from the health service.

"Regrettably now and unbelievably the HSE have written to a number of parents in the area to tell them that the service is ceasing.

"Essentially, they're just sending them on a leaflet which is completely inadequate and very unacceptable."
