The move has been backed by the Transport Minister.

Green Party leader Eamonn Ryan has backed a move to increase the fees for clamping.

Local authorities such as Dublin City Council will now be able to charge €125 for illegal parking.

That's an increase from €80, which will come into effect from March 1st.

It's a move that will try and combat illegally parked vehicles in the city centre.

It's also intended to deter those from travelling through the city in cars.

The Dublin Commuter Coalition and the Irish Wheelchair Association have welcomed the move.

Feljin Jose of the coalition says he'd like to see better enforcement by DCC.

Joan Carthy of the IWA says small gestures by drivers can hurt those with disabilities the most.

She highlighted that a lot of cars temporarily park in disabled spots and cause a lot of distress.
