Leslie Philips, The Voice Of The 'Sorting Hat' In Harry Potter Movies Has Died

Leslie Phillips best known for the Carry On film series and being the iconic voice behind the Sorting Hat in Harry Potter has died at the age of 98.

The veteran on the big screen first took on acting as a means of helping his struggling family after the death of his father. He made his film debut in the musical comedy Lassie From Lancashire in 1938.

The Tottenham-born star appeared in over 200 films, TV and radio series in a career that spanned more than eight decades.

In the Carry On films, he was known for coining famous catchphrases "I Say" and "Ding Dong"

His wife Zara, 63, said: “I’ve lost a wonderful husband and the public has lost a truly great showman"
