The COVID vaccine certificate should remain in place for hospitality and large events after October 22nd, according to a leading immunologist.

It's follows remarks from the Tanaiste this morning, who couldn't rule out some restrictions staying in place.

The majority of the remaining restrictions, such as constraints on hospitality and live events as well as the reopening of night clubs are due to end on October 22nd.

However this morning Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said he couldn't rule out some remaining in place, depending on what NPHET reports back to the government next week.

Professor of Immunology at Trinity College, Kingston Mills, thinks the use of the COVID cert for indoor dining should remain.

There are concerns about the recent rise in hospital and ICU patients with COVID-19, especially those who are not fully vaccinated.

NPHET is to meet next week, before reporting its assessment back to the government.
