A bridge in Cabra is being renamed in honour of the stained glass artist Harry Clarke.

Local residents petitioned Dublin City Council proposing the move, citing the artist's local link -- a window in St Peter's Church nearby.

Lord Mayor Nial Ring (pron: Neel) is unveiling a plaque on the bridge this afternoon.

He says Clarke's work travelled all over the world.

"This was instigated by the Cabra Road Residents' Association, to actually acknowledge the huge amount of work done by Harry Clarke in his relatively short life," he said.

"In the nearby St Peter's Church, the three-light window as it's called by Harry Clarke, was installed exactly a hundred years ago this year."

"So it's fitting that right behind where one of his greatest masterpieces is, this bridge is named after him," he siad.
