Dublin Airport is expecting to begin the use of anti-drone technology within the next 3 weeks, just before the busy summer travel period.

The technology will be capable of bringing down a drone, or returning it to its original location of launch.

This will aid gardaí in tracing drone operators.

The DAA confirm staff have been trained to operate the equipment, but are waiting on regulatory approval.

So far in 2023, the airport closed six times, due to drone activity - causing thousands of passengers to be delayed.

It's illegal to operate a drone within 5km of Dublin airport.

Elsewhere, DAA - which operates both Dublin and Cork airports - said it returned to profit last year.

Passenger numbers substantially increased, as Covid travel restrictions were lifted.

The firm recorded a profit of €98 million, compared to a €101 million loss in 2021.
