A young girl who sustained a severe brain injury while "tram surfing" on a Luas has settled her High Court action for more than half a million euro.

Rebecca Kelly from Pearse House, Pearse Street, was 13 when she and a friend jumped on a Red line Luas eight years ago at Fatima.

She fell back on to the tracks, striking her head and had to be rescued by her friend.

Through her mother, she sued the company that operates the Luas but all claims were denied.

Approving the legal settlement for €550,000 this afternoon, a Judge said it was not necessary to tell Rebecca Kelly she did a silly thing as she knew that.

However, Mr Justice Cross commended her for her honesty.
