There have been a further 1,466 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ireland today.

Today’s figures bring the five-day moving average to 1,523.

As of this morning, there were 402 patients with COVID-19 being treated in Irish hospitals - up slightly from the 400 reported on Monday.

There are currently 73 patients being treated for the virus in intensive care.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said there's been an increase in the number of people admitted to hospital and ICU in recent days.

He said: "Recently, approximately 70% of people being treated in intensive care for COVID-19 have not been fully vaccinated. This is a significant cause for concern.

"If you display any symptoms of COVID-19 including a high temperature, dry cough, or flu-like symptoms - please stay at home. Do not go to work, school, college or socialise.

“I strongly encourage anyone who has not yet been vaccinated to take up the opportunity to do so as soon as possible to best protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19."
