Dublin wrapped up a second Walsh Cup victory which, depending on how Wexford get on against Carlow, should set up a group decider with the Yellowbellies tomorrow week.
The Dubs got off to a bad start, conceding two frees and two points to UCD star man DJ Foran but Donal Burke’s sniper-like free levelled the game at 5 points each.
That plus a super save from Gary Maguire spurred the Dubs on in the 12th minute.
Corner forward John Joe Ryan fired a powerful effort from point blank range but Maguire dived right to push the sliothar away.
UCD keeper Darren Hughes failed to emulate Maguire when Cian O’Sullivan fired into the bottom corner 3 minutes before the break.
Added to that in the first half resurgence were three points from Niall McMorrow, two and another free from Burke and one each from O’Sullivan, Caolan Conway, Chris Crummey and Alex Quinn helping Dublin to a 1-15 to 11 lead.
DJ Foran continued his fine form in the second half and got to 11 with another four frees after the break while Oisin O'Rorke clipped over three but it wasn't enough.
Burke took his tally to double figures with three from play after the break and he made it 1-10 on the night with a late penalty that killed the game in the 65th minute.
The Quinn twins, Ben and Alex, chipped in with 6 points between them after the break while Conway hit a nice brace from midfield before an injury time point from Fiontann MacGibb closed the game.
