For the fourth time in the last five years Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open.
He followed up an opening round 72 with a second round 73, leaving him +1 for the tournament.
“It’s disappointing, I felt like I was coming in here playing well, one of those things I need to do some practice over the weekend and get ready for next week.”
McIlroy rejected the suggestion that the pressure of hosting the tournament put a strain on his game:
“It is hard but it isn’t an excuse because I felt like I was playing well coming in here, even if I was busy Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday I was still able to play 18 holes on Monday.
“Tuesday was a bit of a busy day and then before the Pro-AM on Wednesday, even being busy on those days I should be going out there and shooting a couple of scores in the sixties no problem with the way the conditions are.”
