A good start to World Cup qualifying sees the Republic of Ireland lie second in Group D midway through the campaign.
Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane have had a huge impact, since they took the reins at Abbotstown in 2013.
One of the longest serving members of the squad is team Kitman Dick Redmond, who has been giving a rare insight into the life inside the Irish team’s dressing room.
Watch the video below:
The 60 year old Dubliner became an internet sensation, in the wake of Ireland’s qualification for Euro 2016, when video footage of him in a Superman costume went viral.
He’s a huge fan of O’Neill.
“When the boss talks, it goes really quiet”, he says.
“They walk out, and they’re a little bit taller.
“His team talks are just incredible. Fellas just want to go out there and die for the shirt”.
Redmond also tells us about his close relationship with Robbie Keane and Seamus Coleman, who both needed Dick to place the captain’s armband on their arms before heading out onto the pitch, as a superstition.
