Saido Berahino claims the eight-week drugs ban he served earlier this season came after his drink was spiked in a nightclub.
The English striker was playing for West Brom at the time, as he served the ban in secret for failing an out-of-competition drugs test for a recreational drug.
However his suspension only came to light after his transfer to Stoke in January.
Berahino insists he has never taken drugs in his life, and his positive test was as a result of his drink being spiked.
“I didn’t know how it got into my system. I’ve never taken drugs in my life”, he told BBC Football Focus.
“We had specialists who analysed me and took my hair follicle for six months. There was nothing in my hair- no cannabis or cocaine.
“You go on a night out, you don't know who you are around and there are people who are out to get you.
“Of course, I was in a nightclub, so I hold my hand up for being irresponsible.
“From then on it all crashed down.
“To this day, I still cannot understand who would want to do that to me."
