The FA and the Gambling Commission in the UK are to investigate whether Wayne Shaw’s pie-eating stunt in Sutton’s FA Cup fifth round defeat to Arsenal last night was a breach of betting regulations.
Shaw, Sutton's reserve goalkeeper, wolfed down the pie on in the closing stages of the game.
The moment was caught on the BBC cameras and it went viral on social media.
Before the game, Sun Bets offered odds on it happening:
Shaw insisted afterwards that he hadn’t placed a bet, but that some friends had.
He also defended his move, saying it was just “banter".
Sun Bet have tweeted to say they have paid out a large sum following the bet:
The Gambling Commission in the UK have said they will investigate if there was any "irregularity in the betting market” and if Shaw was paid by the bookmaker to eat the pie.
Shaw very much had the craic during the game last night.
Here he is in the club bar at half time!
