Concerns Raised Over 'Poolbeg West' Development Plans
Concerns have been raised about the plans for a major housing development for Poolbeg that could ultimately house around 8,000 people.
Officials have been planning for the 'Poolbeg West' neighbourhood, which would include more than 3,000 homes for families, in blocks of up to 50 metres.
The 34 hectare site in the south-east of the city includes the old Irish Glass Bottle premises.
Dublin City Council has also agreed to include 900 affordable and social housing units on the new Poolbeg West site.
The council earlier this month agreed to move ahead with the plans, but the public has until the end of the month to appeal the decision.
Today's Irish Times highlights that the Ringsend, Irishtown and Sandymount Environmental Group has appealed.
A spokesperson raised concerns that the neighbourhood could become a "bachelor’s paradise", and high-rise apartment blocks would not be family-friendly.
Full details of the planned development can be found on the DCC website.
