Abortion Committee Votes For Change To Constitution
The Oireachtas Committee examining the 8th amendment on abortion has voted in favour of changing the contsitution.
It paves the way for six possible questions to be put to Irish voters in a referendum next summer.
The 8th Amendment equates the right to life of an unborn baby with the life of the mother.
Three members of the committee voted against the change, with Senator Rónán Mullen claiming it was a "bad, bad moment" for human dignity.
Yesterday the man who reviewed the death of Savita Halappanavar, Dr Sabaratman Arulkumaran told the Senator during a hearing "if you don't support legal abortion, then you support illegal abortion."
