It's Been One Month Since Ibrahim Halawa Was Acquitted
It’s been one month since Ibrahim Halawa was acquitted of all charges against him in Egypt.
Despite this, the 21 year old Dubliner remains locked up in a jail in Cairo after being arrested four years ago during a political protest. Bureaucracy is being blamed for the delay in freeing him.
It had been expected that he would be freed and allowed home to Dublin within a week of a court clearing him of all charges against him.
Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan said Ibrahim has been through enough "I think what he has been through would cause the greatest depression in anyone".
"The sooner it's over the better", he added.
21-year-old Ibrahim has been held in a prison in Cairo since August 2013, after being arrested at a political protest while on holiday.
Former Justice Minister, Alan Shatter, has called for Egypt's Ambassador to Ireland to be expelled until Ibrahim is freed.
