Two Dublin Schools Under Construction By Firm At Centre Of Fire Safety Review
It's claimed schools are still being constructed by a company under investigation over fire safety concerns. Two of them are in Tallaght.
Last week the Education Minister announced a full review is underway into schools built by Western Building Systems since 2003.
That's on top of an audit of 25 schools built by a number of firms in the past two decades.
It's after issues were flagged with plaster board used in the construction.
The company says it believed the school buildings met all relevant fire safety regulations and would have been signed off on by the Department of Education.
The minister told the Oireachtas Committee that WBS is still eligible to apply for other work because of rules around tendering.
The Irish Examiner reports today that WBS is building six more schools, and received the contracts even after concerns emerged.
Two of them are in Tallaght; Firhouse Educate Together and Gaelscoil na Giúise both in Ballycullen.
