Workers Occupy Tallaght Centre After It Closes Without Warning
Five workers are occupying a community centre in Tallaght this afternoon.
It's after the centre shut its doors unexpectedly on Friday without any prior notice to staff.
The Brookfield Youth and Community Centre caters for kids from aged three to seventeen and has been operating in Tallaght for 10 years.
On Friday, the facility was forced to shut its doors and according to Solidarity, all staff were made redundant immediately and given cheques for four weeks pay.
"The workers very bravely decided to occupy the centre", Solidarity TD for Dublin South-West, Paul Murphy.
"They stayed there overnight Friday night and Saturday night to try to ay that the centre has to stay open".
"The campaign is underway effectively to say that the council has to step in directly or via getting another not for profit company to maintain the centre open ... and to keep the jobs".
