Are Politics At Play With Re-opening Of Stepaside Garda Station?
It's been suggested that Stepaside Garda Station is only being re-opened because it's in a Government Minister's constituency.
Stepaside, along with three other stations including Rush, were earmarked for re-opening after they were controversially shut in 2013.
Of those four, the only one the government has begun work on re-opening is Stepaside Garda Station - which is in Minister Shane Ross' constituency.
Members of the Public Accounts Committee have accused the government of completely politicising the process.
The Acting Garda Commissioner confirmed they recommended four Garda stations should re-open in an interim report in June.
Donall Ó Cualáin said the stations were picked by garda management, but the Department of Justice set the criteria.
