The first public hearing of the Oireachtas Committee on the 8th Amendment is being held later.
The chairperson of the Citizens' Assembly Justice Mary Laffoy will be the first person to address it.
The assembly recommended that abortion should be available without restriction - and said the Oireachtas should legislate on the matter.
The committee's been asked to advise the Oireachtas on that legislation, as well as possible changes to the constitution.
Committee chairperson Senator Catherine Noone says they have a difficult task ahead.
"I sincerely doubt that every member of that committee will agree with one another at the end of the process.
"But we will report to the Oireachtas on our findings, and hope that that report will be very helpful... in formulating the question for a referendum which has been promised".
