Asteroid 3122 Florence (named after Florence Nightingale) will safely pass earth today.
It is the closest encounter we have had with this asteroid since 1890.
You can watch the asteroid passing at 10pm tonight but you'll need the help of a telescope. If you don't have one The Bareket Observatory are broadcasting it here.
It won't be this close again until 2500 so set your alarm for this evening!
EarthSky have great tips on how to watch asteroid Florence from your telescope at home. They recommend to keep watching for 5 to 10 minutes to detect its movement across the stars. Even though it's travelling at 48,708 km/hr being so far away will make it appear so slow.
