One in ten taxis in Dublin don't have their details on a new safety app.
Drivers can be fined 40 euro for not linking their personal details to the National Transport Authority's app, which allows customers to check that drivers and cabs are registered. The new security feature is designed to reassures customers about the safety of taxis.
So far this year, 29 taxi drivers in the country have been prosecuted for failing to pay the fine for not linking their personal details to their vehicle. In 28 of those cases, the cab driver had to pay an average penalty of €387 but in one instance, a penalty of €900 was imposed.
Taxi users are able to check the taxi and driver they're using are registered with the NTA via the new Driver Check app, which displays an ID photo of the driver and allows users to email a friend with the details of their trip.
