Police have fired tear gas at anti-Trump protesters in Arizona, as the US president held a rally defending his widely condemned response to the Charlottesville violence.
During a speech in Phoenix, he condemned what he called the 'very dishonest media' who criticised his comments about a white supremacist rally.
He read out an edited transcript of his response, insisting: "I’m really doing this to show you how damned dishonest these people are".
He stressed that he spoke out "forcefully against hatred, bigotry and violence and strongly condemned the Neo-Nazis, the white supremacists and the KKK".
President Trump also claimed his hard line against North Korea has had a positive impact.
Outside the rally, meanwhile, demonstrators gathered in opposition to President Trump and his response to Charlottesville.
Phoenix police claimed some protesters threw rocks and bottles, adding that officers "responded with pepper balls and OC [oleoresin capsicum] spray" to disperse the crowd.
