More than 7,300 people have signed a petition calling for dozens of old trees in Fairview Park to be saved.
Last week it emerged that 50 trees - some of which are more than a century old - are set to be chopped down as part of the council's plans for a 2.5km cycle route between the city centre and Clontarf.
Thousands of people have now thrown their support behind a change.org petition calling for Dublin City Council to save the old trees.
The petition's author Edel Leahy argues that "the very essence and character of Fairview is under threat and we need to protect it".
The petition also highlights a 'perfectly fine' cycle path that already runs through the park, suggesting that "it just needs to be maintained".
