In Ireland, women are far more likely to file for separation or divorce than men. On average 78 percent of wives apply for separation while 58 percent apply for divorce.
The figures have been revealed today in the Courts Service Annual Report. Applications for separation were down 4 percent while divorces were up 3 percent on 2015.
Helen Priestly, Head of Information with the Courts Service, said "the Circuit Court would be the biggest court to deal with these applications".
"There was a small increase this year, about 6% this year. So we're talking about in or around 3000 divorces granted every year", she explained.
