Over 5000 arrests have been made since a dedicated public order unit was set up at Pearse Street Garda Station.
Operation Pier was put in place in 2014 to combat street crime and anti-social behaviour. It mirrors the gardai's Operation Spire on the northside.
It focuses on areas in the city centre and the south inner city including Westmoreland Street, D’Olier Street, Dame Street, Grafton Street, South William Street, George’s Street, Dawson Street, College Green and St. Stephens Green.
The number of arrests is being welcomed by traders in the area, particularly in Temple Bar.
Head of business group Dublin Town, Richard Guiney, says detectives have done a great job with the consistency of their efforts the key to the operation's success.
However Mr Guiney believes there's more work to be done to make the city centre feel safer.
"I think we do need to have a look at the issues around aggressive begging. That would need changes in the legislation."
