It's emerged a five year old boy who had been missing from the People's Park in Dun Laoghaire for three hours on Sunday had climbed into his mum's car.
Local woman Emer Fitzgerald has told The Herald she drove around the area after hearing about the disappearance of Richard Roche, and saw a small head popping out of the back of a parked car.
"He was petrified. He was bawling his eyes out crying."
Richard's dad Aidan has spoken of the 'gut-wrenching' moment he realised he was missing and the panic when there was still no sign of him two hours later.
Richard had been playing with his older brothers as his mum and uncle took turns watching the playground, but the next moment he was gone.
Aidan says his son later told him he couldn't see anyone so he left and went out into the car park.
"At first he climbed and hid under my van, and then climbed into the window of my wife's car which was a few cars down... I looked in the van, around my wife's car, under the car but I never thought about checking inside the car. I just presumed it was locked."
Aidan has thanked Emer and emergency services, saying the gardai were incredible.
