A design team is putting forward a massive regeneration plan for the Liberties including a hotel and brewery.
Newmarket Square near The Coombe in Dublin 8 is already set to undergo a rebirth with the construction of a dedicated 400-bed student accommodation 'village.'
But now planning permission is also being sought for a large hotel, an indoor market, microbrewery, shops, office space and apartments.
Permission has already been granted for a hotel nearby on Dean Street, opposite St Patrick's Cathedral.
Local Labour councillor Rebecca Moynihan says it's good news but there are some concerns
"We're a little bit worried that the makeup of people in the area in the coming years will be a lot more transient and I think people have to have regard for the residential nature of The Tenters in the inner city."
This plan by the Newmarket Partnership involves demolishing the factory units and the 1970s enterprise centre on the square.
If given the green light it's claimed 500 construction jobs would be created during the building phase, with a total of 1700 permanent positions for people in the area once the project's finished.
