A man believed to be in his 30s or 40s has died following a collision on the northside overnight. The two car collision happened at around 1.40am at the junction of the North Circular Road and Portland Row.
The man, a passenger in a taxi, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the taxi was treated at the Mater for minor injuries. The driver of the other car was uninjured.
Diversions were put in place for a time but the road has since reopened this morning. Detectives at Mountjoy Garda Station are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch with them.
Local Councilor Nial Ring said locals are not sure if the man is from the area or not, but believe he may have been on his way home from working in a bar.
"That particular intersection is not a notorious black-spot, although there have been some accidents in the area", he said.
