Dun Laoghaire Harbour is celebrating a big birthday today.
President Higgins will launch the party to mark its 200th birthday.
Both Michael D and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Cathaoirleach Cormac Devlin will lodge a time capsule in the harbour.
A similar one was lodged on 31st May 1817 by the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Charles Whitworth.
The Air Corps will perform a fly past and the Defence Forces will conduct a 21 gun salute on the pier.
Councillor Devlin says the festival will run all summer.
“This weekend we have a fantastic International Harbour Food Festival featuring 25 unique vendors. We are expecting over 100,000 people to visit the town to experience the various events, from walking tours to a mock Viking invasion with long boats in August, there will be something for everyone.”
