Gardai were called to help an innocent man confronted after he was mistakenly identified as a Dublin sex offender.
It happened after his photo was posted on Facebook under a news article.
A web site has apologised to an innocent man who was targeted, after concerns a Dublin child abuser was spotted in the town of Monasterevin.
Kildare Now shared a "mug shot" of Anthony Luckwill with a last known address in Dublin West, who pleaded guilty to sexual assault offences in Co. Meath in 2013.
However in the comments section, a photo of a completely innocent person was published.
It led to him needing garda protection on Friday after he was approached by locals and a row broke out.
Kildare Now has deleted the post, apologised to the man falsely identified and is urging people not to share the photo anywhere else on social media.
