Sean Fitzpatrick has walked from court for the final time this morning after a Judge told him ‘you are free to go’.
Mr Fitzpatrick had been told yesterday that he was going to be acquitted of all charges as the Judge felt there were shortcomings in the Prosecution’s evidence.
But the jurors were only officially told the decision this morning -the Judge excused them from jury service for life after giving eight months of their lives to the trial.
Sean Fitzpatrick spoke briefly to reporters outside the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
He said: ‘I said everything I had to say yesterday. So thank you very much. I don’t want to be rude but I don’t want to speak or make any comments.’
And when asked if he was going to celebrate, he replied ‘that was last night’.
Mr. Fitzpatrick had always denied misleading Anglo’s auditors about millions of euro in loans.
He left court in a taxi for the final time at 11.15 marking an end to the longest running criminal trial in the history of the State.
