Ireland needs to take Eurovision seriously or not enter at all. That's the word from Fianna Fáil's Arts Spokesperson, who has called for "a fundamental review of Ireland's approach" to the song contest.
Niamh Smyth points out that "the Eurovision Song Contest Final has the biggest non-sporting television audience on earth."
“RTÉ sources cite a lack of resources as the reason that more cannot be done, and that needs to be properly explored."
"I would like to see some honest discussion about what has gone wrong in recent years, and an equally honest discussion about what is needed in terms of resources and personnel to start competing again", she said.
Brendan Murray crashed out at the semi-finals of this year's competition, marking four years since Ireland has made it into the final.
