Thousands of Dubliners got out of their beds in the middle of the night last night to walk for Pieta House.
They set off at 4.15am with the largest gathering in the Phoenix Park where about 12,000 people took part in the event.
Large crowds also gathered in Malahide, Marlay Park, Ringsend, Skerries and Tymon Park to walk or run the five kilometre route.
Less than 500 people took part in the very first Darkness into Light event in the Phoenix Park back in 2009 but today it's thought that over 150,000 people walked towards the sunrise at 120 locations nationwide.
Walks also took place across the globe in places like Canada, Australia, Denmark and the UK.
Organisers say the main aim of the event is to get people talking about mental health and suicide.
