Home ownership in Dublin has fallen to the lowest rate since records began.
1 in 4 residents in the city are now renters.
According to CSO figures seen by the Irish Times, more people own their own homes in parts of Germany than here.
Germany is know for being a renting country so the drop in Dublin is significant.
60% of people living in the city owned their own property at the end of last year - in 2000 it was almost 75%.
The reduction is being blamed on boom time house prices, incomes which have not increased, tighter credit rules and the rise of flexible work patterns and contract work.
