There have been heated exchanges in court after a 25 year old man was handed nine years in jail for killing his friend over a Chihuahua.
Wayne Cluskey was convicted of Christopher Nevin’s manslaughter last month.
The victim's wife Lisa Nevin became emotional during the sentencing and told the Judge she wouldn’t accept any apology from the accused.
Then, on hearing Wayne Cluskey’s sentence, she shouted ‘9 years and I’ll never see his face again.'
27 year old Christopher Nevin died outside a house in Navan in November 2015 after being struck with a hatchet and an axe following a row over a Chihuahua.
Wayne Cluskey of Mooretown in Rathoath was convicted of his manslaughter.
24 year old Josh Turner of the same address was given a life sentence after the jury found him guilty of the more serious charge of murder.
The Judge noted the victim's wife's words that when her husband died "a part of her died."
