A new phone line has been set up for anyone who has suffered sex abuse as a child and wants to report it to Gardai.
It's been established five years after it was recommended by the Garda Inspectorate.
Callers can ring 1800 555 222 at any time of the day or night, 365 days a year.
Detective Superintendent Declan Daly says it doesn't matter when the abuse took place and a caller only has to give a small amount of information to start the process.
"Calls are answered by call takers in our communications centre. They record details of the abuse, name, phone number, location of abuse and the date if its known. That information is then passed to our districts so a detective can be assigned... and the inveastioagation can begin."
