Dublin Civic Trust is opposing plans to convert one of the city’s oldest recorded buildings into a homeless hostel.
The Peter McVerry Trust have plans to use Number 21 Aungier Street to house rough sleepers.
However, the civic trust are against the idea.
The say it would interfere with the building’s planning permission and would be a “completely unacceptable” use of a “culturally significant building”.
Number 21 Aungier Street is thought to date from 1667.
The Irish Times report that in recent years, the property has been used as a guesthouse and to accommodate asylum seekers.
In a statement, Dublin City Council said their heritage and conservation department would ensure “no architectural elements of this building are compromised".
